'What I'd like is when you think of American guitar, you think of me.' Mike Bloomfield, 1975 This web Site is dedicated to the life and music of Michael Bloomfield (1943-1981), a pioneer in blues and rock in the 60s and one of Americas greatest blues guitarists. It is offered here as a resource for Bloomfield fans and researchers, and is intended as an adjunct site to the official Michael Bloomfield website. "Michael Bloomfield: An American Guitarist" consists of several articles about Bloomfield's bands and work, an extensive chronology of his performances and recordings, a recollections page with contributions from friends and fans, and a check-list of Michael's currently available recordings. The material in the chronology the main focus of this site has been drawn from numerous sources and is necessarily incomplete, particularly after 1970 when Bloomfield performed primarily in casual settings for which no written record remains. Additional information regarding Bloomfields personal life and the careers of other guitarists of the period has been included here and there in the listings to provide a broader picture of the creative milieu. Throughout the chronology there also are links to samples of Bloomfield's playing. These are included to give a real sense of his extraordinary talent. They have been kept short to facilitate quick downloading. This site is an ongoing project and has been aided along the way by many, many generous fans and friends. Without their enthusiastic support, much of the information here would not have been uncovered and made available to the public. Copying material on the site for personal use is encouraged; republishing listings or articles on the web or in print is permitted provided permission is obtained prior to publication and credit is given.
